Intercropping system refers to a system in which two or more types of crops are planted on the same parcel of land at the same time. There is lots of biophysical interaction when using this system. This system increases soil fertility, decreases green house gas (Carbon mitigation), protects soil and water resources, income diversification, provide wildlife habitat, and so on. Due to the integration of crops with trees/shrubs, the roots of trees grow beyond the typical root zone of crops, providing more nutrients and water absorbed as well as keeping the soil in place, avoiding soil erosion. Besides, trees add carbon to the soil and recycle nutrients.
